WHAT DOES OTOPLASTY GIVE?
Surgical correction of protruding ears, or otoplasty, is a procedure that allows for the proper positioning and appearance of the earlobes. The doctor can also improve the appearance of the earlobes, the appearance of the outer auricle (shell) or its size.
WHAT IS OTOPLASTY?
The procedure involves incising the back surface of the auricle, reshaping the cartilage and placing sutures.
FOR WHOM IS OTOPLASTY?
Indications for the procedure are usually protruding ears, dissatisfaction with the size of the ears or other auricle deformities that cause complexes in both children and adults.
BEFORE TREATMENT
Before the procedure, a consultation with a doctor is necessary, who will explain all aspects of the operation, and recommend appropriate tests, based on which he will qualify the patient for the procedure. The patient will receive instructions on how to prepare for the procedure.
AFTER TREATMENT
After a maximum of two weeks after the procedure, the doctor removes the sutures and changes the dressing. A brace is also placed, which must be worn 24 hours a day for the first three weeks. Contact sports, sun exposure and extreme weather conditions should also be avoided for about three weeks after the procedure. In most cases, a small scar remains after the procedure, hidden behind a fold of skin, but its final appearance can be assessed only after 6-12 months.
